7 Pathological causes for slimness

Obviously, obesity has multiple harms and risks. So public opinion started to call for agility and avoiding obesity. But recently, some went so far as to call for slimness, which predisposes to serious health problems not less than the health problems caused by obesity. So we will highlight the most important pathological causes for slimness.

  1. Diabetes: it develops due to decreased secretion of insulin hormone by the pancreas or due to disturbed insulin resistance. It's known than our body cells needs glucose as a source of energy to carry out its usual vital activities, but in diabetic patients the cells don't get enough glucose required for its activities. In this situation, our body cells start to use the stored fat cells as an alternative source of energy, leading to gradual decrease of the stored body fat and slimness.
  2. Hyperthyroidism: it means hyperactivity of the thyroid gland (over-secretion of thyroxin hormone); this hyperactivity leads to marked increase in basal metabolic rate (BMR), which needs extra-source of energy, so the body tends to use the stored body fat to fulfill the energy required.
  3. Malabsorption: it's usually due to atrophy of the villi and the epithelial lining of the intestine or due to parasitic infestation.
  4. Tumors: it's usually manifested with cachexia, weight loss and loss of appetite; leading to marked slimness.
  5. Medications: using certain medications (such as narcotic drugs or antidepressants) could include some side effects such as marked weight loss and slimness.
  6. Eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa.
  7. Severe anemia and malnutrition disease.
