5 Tips to keep healthy weight during pregnancy

Weight gain during pregnancy is very common; medical studies confirmed that weight gain during pregnancy ranges from 10-12.5 kg at full term. On the other hand, excessive weight gain during pregnancy is usually associated with health problems such as diabetes and increased blood pressure, which cause serious maternal and fetal complications. So we will highlight some important tips to keep body weight within normal limits during pregnancy.


1.Watch your body mass index (BMI):

knowing your BMI is very helpful in detecting the allowed weight gain. For example, if BMI within normal limits, then the allowed weight gain rang is (10-12.5 Kg). If BMI is higher, the allowed weight gain should be less.


2.Eat enough protein-rich foods:

protein is necessary not only for baby's growth and development, but also for stabilization of blood glucose level, which helps in avoiding excessive weight gain.


3.Drink plenty of water:

generally, water intake should be increased in pregnancy. Drinking water is very helpful in preventing over-eating and avoiding excessive weight gain.


4.Be active:

daily low-impact exercise (walking, yoga… etc.) for 30 minutes keeps body weight within normal limits during pregnancy. First, you should ask your doctor for permission.


5.Ask medical advice:

if you noticed excessive weight gain during pregnancy, it's recommended to see a dietitian to help you in this issue.
